  • SPREAD THE VIRUS!

The wooden walkways cross the whole area, from Lamoen to Dora I and the sea shore. Their ondulating shapes follow the grid as they get wider at some points to host specific acivities. Their design offers a vast array of non-predictable possibilities, they are meant to be fun, enjoyable and expandable. As they are easy to build and made of cheap materials (mainly timber), more paths can be created, and even self-built by the neighbours, as well as modified or adapted to new needs.

  • LINKING UP TO THE CITY

Blurring the Railway barrier by creating a series of walkways connecting Svartlamoen to the city center.

  • GETTING BACK THE HERITAGE

  • Developping DORA I in two directions:
  • Cultural container: Kultimathule.
  • Heritage remembrance: recovering the U-Boot bunker. Working on the U-boot original aesthetics, introducing the water as an indoor element…
  • FROM “TERRAIN VAGUE” TO SURPRISE GARDEN

The area in between used to be a no man’s land, it will become a gigantic playground in neverending movement, constantly changing and expanding, bringing together generations. The built architecture will remain subtle, nature and human activity will prevail.

  • ECO-CITY →DOMESTI-CITY

JARDINHUERTA_BR

To preserve the very unique atmosphere of Svartlamoen neighbourhood, domestic life will open up to the south, by transforming the whole area into a urban garden, providing sustainable food as a productive ressource. By keeping the scale small, this communal backyard will be a meeting point for the locals, a laboratory for experimental ways of life.

  • E.1.-TIMBERLAND

  • SEAPOWER TO THE PEOPLE

The walkways will lead the citizens to the sea shore in a relaxed promenade. The harbour, while preserving its industrial activity could be integrated into urban life dynamics, offering new exploration paths.

  • TRACKS & TRUCKS: A PEACEFUL COHABITATION. PEDESTRIANS & BIKERS: MOVING FREE

Heavy traffic will be redirected at the roundabout, the new transportation hub, outside the area.

Strandveien road will be transformed into a small section street. The harbour railway will be reduced to a single dead end track, ensuring the possible temporary storage of freight wagons. Special paths will be created for pedestrians and bikers, although the whole area will be devoted to them.

The new cultural use, as well as the easier access, guarantee the arrival of non-familiar with the neighbourhood citizens. The urban planning should offer an enjoyable environement for everyone, and absolutely avoid exclusive areas. Meanwhile, the actual social fabric should be carefully preserved.

  • URBAN GRID

The whole intervention is generated from a basic gridded pattern, following 3 main directions based on 3 urban referents: 1.bunker DORA I  2.strandveien 3.southern railway tracks.

  • STRANDVEIEN 27

Ground level incluyes backstage facilities as well as storage space in its back, connected to the neighbouring music club. Facing Strandveien a free plan floor opens up to the street and the garden making multiple possibilities available, such as audiovisual performances both open-air and indoor. An open corridor goes through the building, connecting both sides of Svartlamoen in a smooth walking transition from public to more cozy environment. The upper floors are devoted to the housing units, scattered through the platforms on different levels. The in-between units space is large enough to allow many actibities to take place in: eating out, playing, painting… The flats are all different both in shape and dimensions, meanwhile the scheme is always the same. They work as cells, the core hosts the kitchen, the bathroom and some storage space, the ramaining area is fully flexible and can be divided when needed by a series of panels hidden inside the core walls.

  • U-BOOT BUNKER

The new DORA I is organizad on different levels. The Ground floor introduces water and presents to the public the fascinating history of the bunker by celebrating the U-Boat aesthetics and retrieving the XL interior scale. Floating platforms connect the docks where the exhibition space is located.  Suspended boxes, connected by one of the walkways, host several functions: library, administration, café… On the roof the walkway-worm in its final twist becames a shelter for recreational facilities: bars, nightclubs… As well as a stands area facing a large open air performance hall.
